South Eastern Railway Sports Association (SERSA), Ranchi, emerged champions in the 28th All-India Lalmony Memorial Cricket Tournament, defeating Union Sporting Club (Cuttack) in the final by 31 runs at Gandhi ground in Sonepur today. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 40,000 and the runners-up outfit Rs 24,000.
Madan Lal, the 1983 World Cup winning member of the Indian team, handed over the trophy at the closing function. Odisha Industries Minister Niranjan Pujari was present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Madan Lal said success has no short cut and one has to work hard to achieve success.
The former cricket star called upon budding cricketers to develop a passion for the game. The tournament was organised by Subarnapur Cricket Association with the support of Chandrasekhar Pathagar.
BRIEF SCORE:
SERSA 201/5 in 20 overs (Kaushal Singh 70, Siddharth Raj Sinha 48, Ishan Kishan 33) beat Union Sporting 170/10 in 19.4 overs (Hemanta Champati 47, Om Bikash 32, Lingaraj Parida 32; Surinder Singh Suri, Bikash Singh each 3 wkts) by 31 runs.
